Pancho Villa's Raid Day
- The tour of Pancho Villa's Border Crossing will transport you
back to the original site of the infamous raid on the U.S.
Village of Columbus, NM March 9th, 1916.
By
the end of this fun and factual historical event tour you're
going to understand why the name "Pancho Villa" is known
worldwide.
This tour is the Bicychole version of
the auto/van tour.
Flat and level ride on trails and roads. Easy elevations.
TOUR TIME:
2-4 hours Depending on if
museums are open or closed.
TOUR DISTANCE: Approximately 8 miles
Price -
$50.00 per rider
The Hole
Way Around
- The Hole Enchilada is my biking tour
version of a long stroll in the park.
We'll be using the "old road to El Paso" to get out of town,
then north on San Diego road which is a time travel through
very old farming country littered with abandoned ranches
and farm workers housing from the once "Hay Days" it
enjoyed.
We'll head up to Hwy 11 and make our way back to the Village
from there.
Tour Level -
Easy Endurance
This tour features dynamic views of the
Florida and Tres Hermanas mountains. Mostly flat riding
on well conditioned dirt roads and Hwy 11. Elevations are
minor ups and downs.
TOUR TIME:
3 hours.
TOUR DISTANCE: Our longest at give or
take 20 Miles.
Price -
$35.00 per rider
The Old Road to El Paso east
to San Diego Road
The Border Wall
-Get up and close to the "Columbus
Curtain" aka the border wall. Ironically we'll be traveling
south on Pershing Rd (dirt), named after Gen. Blackjack
Pershing, the commander of the Punitive Expedition to
capture Pancho Villa. Check out the "wall" in 1913!
Tour Level -
Moderate Light
This tour makes for a nice ride to the
border and back. Mostly flat elevation with a few fun swish
backs and Whoop-de-doos.
TOUR TIME 2 Hours
TOUR DISTANCE 12 Miles
US/MEXICO
Border gate 1913
Price -
$25.00 per rider
The Sombrero -
Aptly named "The Sombreo" (as it looks
like from the highway), is actually a FAA Air Traffic
Control facility that monitors and signals to pilots
their proximity to the International Border.
Not something you want to cross
accidentally in an airplane, or on purpose with a load of
contraband. Which was a cottage industry in the
area in the 70's & 80's!
Columbus still has 2 airparks!
Tour Level -
Moderate Light
This tour takes us east on Hwy 9. We use
the Border Patrols worn in trail that parallels the highway
to the Sombrero then we crossover and return across a fun
open trail leading us back to the Old El Paso road to get
home.
TOUR TIME 2 Hours
TOUR DISTANCE
12 Miles
Price -
$25.00 per rider
The Tres Hermanas
- Our Tres Hermans Mountains aka The Three
Sisters sit on BLM land and is easily accessed from the Hwy
11. But we ain't taking the easy way.
As all my tours, we head out my
driveway, then up the hill until we hit the back "road" that will
take us right to the sisters feet!

Tour Level -
Difficult
This tour features many elevation
changes, long challenging trail riding, wide open ranges,
and all the off-road speed you can handle.
TOUR TIME:
2 hours
TOUR DISTANCE: 16 miles
Price -

The Rocky Road
- This route will test your bike, and all
your riding skills. Not for the faint of heart, or casual
rider.
I'll take you through old BLM
mountain cattle ranching lands scattered with ruins of stock
yards, feed lots, and shacks. We'll travel on and across the
wide sand beds of arroyos that run like wild
rivers when it rains.
We'll be traversing trails that
require us off-bike to maneuver over and around natural
obstacles on the trail.
Tour Level -
EXTREME
This tour features all the elements of
risk the hardcore trail rider will love.
I highly recommend protective
clothing including elbow, knee pads, and gloves in case you
tangle with gravel or a cactus!
Whether your steed is horseflesh or
alloy,
get on and ride it the HOLE WAY HERE!
Columbus is an oasis to our
cycling friends. The Getaway makes for shelter, shower, and
services!
The rental has two bedroom, and an office that can convert
to a third. Using floor space inside, and the en3-car
garage, we can shelter upto 20 riders. And, depending on the
weather, we can host dozens-and-dozens of tents throughout
the property.
